Corrected Age
Chronological, corrected, and postmenstrual age for an infant born preterm. The result updates as you type.
Method
Corrected age = chronological age − (40 weeks − gestational age at birth)
Postmenstrual age = gestational age at birth + chronological age
Chronological age is the time elapsed since birth. Corrected age is the age the child would be if born at 40 weeks, and is the preferred term for children up to 3 years of age who were born preterm. Postmenstrual age is used during the perinatal period, typically while the infant is in hospital.
In craniofacial practice, corrected age is used to interpret head growth and head shape measurements against age norms and to time interventions such as cranial orthosis treatment.
