Synkinesis Assessment Questionnaire
Nine-item patient-reported measure of synkinesis after facial nerve injury.
Method
SAQ score = (sum of the 9 items ÷ 45) × 100
Higher scores mean more frequent or severe synkinesis. Because each item is rated 1 to 5, the lowest possible score is 20. The questionnaire is commonly used to track response to chemodenervation, neuromuscular retraining, and selective neurectomy.
Items are paraphrased here for entering responses. For patient administration and research, use the original instrument.
